Woodville Infant School is situated in the centre of the town of Woodville, in the Swadlincote area of South Derbyshire. We cater for pupils from 4-7 years of age and share a large site with our neighbouring junior school.
The school currently has234 pupils. In the main building there are6 classrooms, a library and ICT area, a hall, playground and school garden. In September 2007 we extended our school and now have apurpose builtopen plan building for our Foundation Stage children. This has three large teaching spaces, a wet area for creative activities, outdoor learning areas and garden and an additional playground. The school also has a large grassed field for outdoor activities, a tyre park and a trim trail.
Class sizes are usually around 25 children and never more than 30. All classrooms are well resourced and have both teaching assistant support and access to additional specialist teaching as appropriate. ICT is an integral part of our curriculum and each classroom has an interactive whiteboard and access to the internet. Individual PC's are in classrooms and ina small suite in the library. We also have ten laptop computers for group work and individual use.
At Woodville we aim to give the children high aspirations and the self-confidence to achieve well. We want learning to be fun and a natural part of life but this is not at the expense of high expectations. We want every child to achieve their very best; we set challenging whole school and individual targets and work extremely hard to achieve high standards of attainment.
A very important part of our provision is the continual enrichment of the curriculum to maximise the first- hand experiences that our children have access to. Increasing use of the outside environment, local area, visitors to school, specialist workshops and visits offers every child wide ranging interactive opportunities that are enjoyable and lead to improved learning experiences and achievement.
Our school is a happy school where children, staff, parents and governors all work as a team. All staff are committed to creating a caring, friendly ethos and establishing good relationships with every child and their family.
